A couple of former Texas Tech’s head coaches will reunite for the 2024–25 season, with Mark Adams joining Chris Beard’s staff at Ole Miss.
After Beard left Texas Tech to fill the vacancy at Texas in 2021, Adams was recruited and spent two years as head coach of the Red Raiders.
Beard accepted the job at Ole Miss for the 2023-24 season after being fired as the Longhorns’ head coach in January because of domestic violence charges stemming from an incident involving his fiancée on Dec. 12, 2022. The charges were ultimately dropped after the Travis County District Attorney’s Office determined the crime could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Adams, Texas Tech’s head coach from 2021-2023, resigned from the program after being suspended by the university for making “inappropriate, unacceptable and racially insensitive comments” toward the team. Adams allegedly referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents and slaves serving their masters, which quickly led to his suspension and eventual resignation.
According to a report by KCBD’s Brandon Soliz, Beard’s staff includes five of his former assistants who were with him at Tech, including Al Pinkins, Bob Donewald Jr., Brian Burg, John Reilly and now Mark Adams.
The two will now join forces again in Oxford after Adams spent a season as an assistant coach at East Carolina.
