Lena Dunham and Taylor Swift have known each other for a long time and she does not take their friendship for granted.

The 38-year-old “Girls” star has been part of the 34-year-old singer’s “crew” for over a decade and knows firsthand the scrutiny Taylor has faced both personally and professionally since her teenage years.

“I’m always very careful to protect her in every way,” she explained in a new profile in The New Yorker.

“The two things I get asked most in life are probably ‘What’s Taylor like?’ and ‘Can I get tickets for the Eras Tour?’ And usually my answer to both questions is ‘no,'” said Lena, who was at Wimbledon last week.

Lena is very protective of her friend’s privacy, but also says that Swift is “everything you could want her to be.”

“She’s kind, she’s devoted, she’s thoughtful, she’s emotional, she’s damn funny,” she added. “I think my feeling sometimes is, is she not giving us enough, folks?”

And although the two stars are friends, the “This is 40” star is also a huge fan who sings her heart out every time she attends a concert by the Bejeweled singer.

“I sometimes like to travel to cities that are a little off the beaten track,” she said of the Eras tour dates she was part of.

“I said (to my husband Luis Felber) beforehand: ‘Listen, you’ve never seen me like this before,'” she recalls.

“It’s like something is going through me – it’s my church. I start speaking in tongues. Even before Taylor and I became friends, I always felt such a deep connection to her music.”

And she’s seen every tour Taylor has done.

“I love it when a woman who is not yet forty says, ‘Yes, I have a considerable body of work.’ What I find inspiring is her awareness of her own productive expressiveness.”

In the same New Yorker interview, the “Treasure” star revealed that she had given up her role as director of the film “Polly Pockets.”

“I’m not going to do the Polly Pocket movie. I wrote a script and worked on it for three years.”

Emily in Paris star Lily Collins, 35, was signed to play the title character, based on the popular 1980s toy, when the project was announced in 2021.

Dunham explained that the success of her colleague and director Greta Gerwig with the blockbuster “Barbie” was the reason for her decision to step down.

“I’m always very protective of them in every way,” Lena explained in a new profile in the New Yorker; (LR) Hailee Steinfeld, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift, Lily Aldridge and Lena Dunham in 2015

“I think Greta accomplished this incredible feat (with Barbie) of creating this thing that was literally candy to so many different people and was perfectly and divinely Greta,” she explained.

“And I just felt like if I can’t do it that way, I’m not going to do it. I don’t think I have it in me,” she said.

“I feel like my next film has to feel like a film that I absolutely have to make.”

“Nobody could do it but me. And I thought other people could do Polly Pocket,” she said.
