Lawyer for person affected in connection with the death of Deundray Cottrell makes statement

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – The attorney representing a person of interest in the death of 31-year-old Deundray Cottrell issued a statement to WBRC Wednesday afternoon.

Birmingham Police said they were looking for and wanted to speak to 31-year-old Julian Morris in connection with the investigation into Cottrell’s missing person and death.

Attorney Victor Revill of Revill Law Firm, who represents Morris, issued the following statement:

Cottrell was reported missing on Thursday, July 4, before being found dead on Saturday, July 6.

BPD believes that Cottrell was last seen and/or heard from by Morris and that there may have been a romantic relationship between the two.

“We need to speak to him as soon as possible. He is 31 years old, a black male, and weighs 165 pounds. If you find or see him, please call 911,” BPD officials said.

WBRC’s Bria Chatman spoke with Cottrell’s younger brother Timothy. He told Morris this: “You know what happened. I want you to know that you can’t run away forever, and you know that you can’t run away forever. So I advise you to deal with the consequences now, and I want you to realize that you have hurt a lot of people. Julian, if you could see this, look at your television and your phone screen and realize that you have hurt a lot of people.”

Birmingham Police also issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:

Currently, the BPD is investigating Cottrell’s death as an unclassified death matter until it can be determined if it is a criminal or non-criminal case. However, the BPD says an autopsy can determine the manner and cause of death.
