Jessica Mauboy shares Australia’s team song for the Paris Olympics

Following its debut at the Prime Minister’s Olympic and Paralympic Dinner in Melbourne recently, Jessica Mauboy has officially released Australia’s team song for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The origins of the Australian team song entitled “Higher” lie with musician and producer Will Hyde, who approached the Australian Olympic Committee to develop this creative project.

Hyde then developed it with the assistance of Pack manager Sky McElroy and Kohlver strategist Samuel Koh, and the Australian Olympic Committee invited Australian athletes to shape the theme, spirit and lyrical content of the song.

Written by Australian songwriters Shannon Busch and Stephen Mowat, “Higher” was an instant hit with the Australian Olympic Committee as its powerful lyrics reflect the commitment, resilience and ambition of Australian athletes.

“It is an absolute honour to raise my voice in support of our incredible Australian athletes,” says Mauboy. “‘Higher’ captures the spirit and energy of our amazing team and I know I speak for all Australians when I say we are thrilled to celebrate their dedication, passion and the pride they bring to us all.”

Mauboy will travel to Paris to perform “Higher” at the opening of the Australian Olympic Committee Flag Bearer Ceremony at the French Mint (Accueil Monnaie de Paris) on Wednesday 24 July.

Australian Olympic Committee Chair and four-time Olympian Cate Campbell added: “The lyrics speak to the reality of an Olympian’s journey to the Games and melodically it’s a killer track. It’s uplifting and has a great chorus – I can just imagine our Olympic athletes belting this out in Paris, some better than others.”

Mauboy will also sing “Higher” during the Australian team’s homecoming ceremony on Wednesday 14 August, which will be broadcast live on Channel Nine.

In other Mauboy news, she was recently featured on “Won’t Stop,” the new single from First Nations collective 3%. Previously, Mauboy released her fifth studio album, Yours foreverearlier this year.

Only a few weeks left until the Olympic Games. Rolling Stone Australia/New Zealand has identified five competitions that both Australian and New Zealand fans should definitely watch.
