No, Taylor Swift did not support Biden for the 2024 presidential election

No, Taylor Swift did not support Biden for the 2024 presidential election

Claim:

In an online graphic, Taylor Swift is seen supporting Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election, saying, “I believe that under her leadership, America has a chance to begin the healing process it so desperately needs.”

Evaluation:

INCORRECT

context

Swift had not yet announced who she was supporting for the 2024 election at the time of this writing. She made the above statement supporting Biden and Harris before the 2020 election.

In July 2024, a viral image purporting to show singer Taylor Swift’s support for U.S. President Joe Biden’s candidacy went viral. A caption on the graphic read “Taylor Swift Endorses Biden” with a purported quote from the singer: “Under her leadership, I believe America has a chance to begin the healing process it so desperately needs.” Below was a label that read “Biden-Harris 2024,” suggesting she made these comments in 2024.

The above image is inaccurate in that Swift had not publicly endorsed Biden for the 2024 election at the time of this writing. Although she made the above statement supporting Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, she only did so for the 2020 election. Therefore, we rate this claim as “false.”

In October 2020, Swift said in an interview with entertainment magazine V Magazine:

I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. I believe that under their leadership, America has a chance to begin the healing process it so desperately needs.

However, according to recent news reports from early 2024 and June 2024, Swift has not publicly endorsed Biden. She has not made any such announcements in interviews or on her social media accounts. If Swift had made such an announcement, it would be on all reputable entertainment and political news websites. We have reached out to Swift’s reps to learn more about who she will support in the 2024 election and will update this story as soon as we receive more information.

During the 2020 election cycle, she endorsed Biden just one month before the actual election.

As Democrats look to leverage their support ahead of the Democratic National Convention in August 2024, some are proposing a strategy in which cultural icons like Swift help the party find a new candidate to replace Biden, according to a July 2024 report by the news website Semafor. Some Democrats have floated the idea of a “blitz primary,” hoping it would allow Biden to step down and introduce new candidates, with figures like Swift hosting weekly forums with those candidates.

In the past, we have reported on false claims that Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce, and even singer Miley Cyrus, said they would leave the United States if Trump won the 2024 election.
