Coen Carr of the Michigan State University basketball team talks about his role in the second season

Michigan State University basketball forward Coen Carr is the entertaining and stunning fan favorite on Coach Tom Izzo’s team, but as he approaches his second season with the team, he wants a lot more.

Carr averaged only 11.6 minutes per game last season, but played in every game for the Spartans.

The up-and-coming striker was aware that there were others who deserved more playing time.

“Last year just wasn’t my time, so we had the older guys … all the older guys deserve to play,” Carr said Tuesday at the 2024 Moneyball Pro-Am. “So, I mean, I wasn’t complaining about it. I felt like coach put the best lineup he could have put. So, yeah, just knowing that we kind of got a fresh start, that I can come in and play a much bigger role than I did last year.”

Carr is now a returnee to this team and although he is not yet a senior, he already has a year of experience in a program led by Coach Izzo.

The second-year Spartan wing has an idea of what his role should be.

“I mean, just being the versatile player that I am,” Carr said. “I defend multiple positions, play multiple positions on offense and just kind of be aggressive. I don’t miss shots, I don’t miss driving lanes, just play my game and play the way he (Izzo) knows I can play, seriously.”
