FAMU 220 QB Club renames organization after president and founder Jackson

Florida A&M’s 220 Quarterback Club met for the first time in two months on Wednesday, the first luncheon since the death of its founder and president, Eddie Jackson.

The 220 Quarterback Club is back.

Florida A&M fans and Rattlers sports fans filled the Old West Enrichment Center on Wednesday for the first in-person 220 Club luncheon since May 7.

The organization that financially supports FAMU Athletics wasted no time in paying its final respects to its president and founder Eddie Jackson, who passed away on June 3 at the age of 86.

“I’m going to make this a brief meeting for a motion. I’m moving that we officially name this group the ‘Eddie Jackson 220 Quarterback Club,'” football player and former FAMU Sports Hall of Fame athletic director Vaughn Wilson told the audience.

Wilson’s motion was applauded and there were no objections.

The lunch was hosted by the President of the Rattler Boosters, Selvin Cobb.

Rattlers praised Jackson, who dedicated 58 years to his alma mater, FAMU, from creating the school’s 1966 yearbook to founding and leading the 220 Quarterback Club from 2009 until his death last month.

Jackson is a member of the FAMU Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted in the class of 2008.

Speakers included Jackson’s widow, Jerrlyne, who also brought copies of Jackson’s final writings and funeral programs to distribute to 220 members of the Quarterback Club.

“I want to thank all of you for your support of Eddie over the years. And I especially want to thank the Rattler Nation for all the good things you have said about him,” Jerrlyne said.

“Eddie would be so happy to know how many people enjoyed his show. We are grateful to everyone who watches. Keep watching because we will continue to move forward.”

What’s next for FAMU’s 220 Quarterback Club?

The 220 Quarterback Club will resume its weekly meetings as FAMU’s 2024-2025 athletic year begins and the Rattlers football team opens its season against the Norfolk State Spartans.

Jerrlyne Jackson announced that the 220 Quarterback Club would establish a monthly award for the best member because its members had been “great” to the late Eddie Jackson and FAMU.

The 220 Quarterback Club is sponsoring the Rattler Boosters Kickoff Luncheon and Golf Tournament on August 10th to donate proceeds to FAMU Athletics.

“August 10 is a very important day for us. We must continue to support our student-athletes,” Cobb said.

Although Eddie Jackson’s passionate commitment to FAMU Athletics has ended, the 220 Quarterback Club aims to carry on his legacy.

And it starts now.

“We just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing. If we want to support our teams at championship level, we have to do better than we did last year,” Wilson said.

“Selvin, Mrs. Jackson, myself and several others have continued to try to carry on for our leader.”
