Nathan MacKinnon was reminded that he is number 2 on the list of famous people from his hometown

There are different degrees of fame, but one of the first degrees you want to achieve is to be the most famous person from your hometown. Of course, it’s harder if you’re from a big city, but if you’re from a small town, it’s achievable.

Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon is from the town of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, and you might think he’s probably Cole Harbour’s most famous resident.

However, this is not the case and perhaps never will be, as a certain Sidney Crosby is a boy from Cole Harbour and the town of MacKinnon is an unintentionally brutal reminder that his buddy Sid will always be Cole Harbour’s favourite son.

X-user @mxaether took a photo of the town sign showing Nate’s dog accidentally getting soiled.

So you have a sign that says “Cole Harbour: Home of Sidney Crosby” – and what a sign it is. It’s beautifully designed and well executed. It’s not even cluttered with Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce logos, which is nice.

Since that sign went up, however, there have been a few other accomplishments worth mentioning. The city received the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award in 2018. While that’s big, it wasn’t big enough to attach to the fancy original sign, so it was attached underneath.

But then Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2022. That’s a big deal, so maybe it’s time to change the original sign to “Home of Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon.”

Well, Nate Dog just got a congratulations attached below the Community Spirit Award.

I understand there are reasons why this was done, but you won’t even be able to see MacKinnon’s name if someone forgets to use a brush cutter in front of the sign.

Moderate growth should never obscure the fact that a local won the Stanley Cup.

If MacKinnon adds a few more rings to his collection, they might get a new sign, but for now, it’s Sidney Crosby’s town.
