Since there has been less news on the Ravens this week, I thought I’d start today’s Out to Lunch with a fun hypothetical from Jonas Shaffer and Paul Mancano of The Banner. If the Ravens roster was split into two teams, what would be the best possible configuration?
In the Banner Ravens Podcast, @PaulMancano And @jonas_shaffer has split the current Ravens squad into two teams.

For me, a team with Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and Roquan Smith will win.
However, that may not be the case for NFL legend Luke Kuechly, as he believes Cam Newton was a better quarterback than Jackson at the peak of his career:
Former Panthers ILB Luke Kuechly prefers Cam Newton over Lamar Jackson

Zay Flowers may need to speak to his former BC Eagle colleague to correct Kuechly’s opinion.
In the media on Tuesday, Joy Taylor again took Jacksonโs side in another debate about his level:
Joy Taylor speaks facts as she jumps into the breach for Lamar Jackson
“I think Lamar gets unfairly criticized and I think that’s because we’ve never seen anyone like Lamar Jackson … we haven’t really tuned our brains to evaluate running quarterbacks yet.”pic.twitter.com/n3wXPKO0HL

While I think people are getting smarter about the impact of a dual-threat QB, it’s a lot easier to change the rules of the game when it’s less clear what “elite” means to these guys.
In 2015, you could have argued that Newton would become the best player in NFL history. After defenses adjusted (and injuries struck), he was never the same. Jackson, who had some stellar seasons of his own, has gotten used to the way defenses adjust to him.
The 2023 season was one of those seasons where Jackson improved in areas his opponents were not prepared for, and the results showed it:

Through the air, Jackson once again silenced his haters, and while that will continue to be the case, the more he experiences his success, the harder it is to deny it.
For others, however, success in the regular season is completely irrelevant. I can understand this argument when I said just last week that this year it was a matter of making the Super Bowl or being eliminated. The problem is the Kansas City Chiefs.
KC is 6-0 ahead in the playoffs against three of the NFL’s best teams of the last half decade:
The Bills (+684) and Ravens (+647) have the best and best point differential for a team that failed to reach a SB in every 5-year period since 1994.
This is the legacy of Kansas City.
Including SF, the Chiefs are 6-0 against these teams in the playoffs.https://t.co/i9qewScK4t pic.twitter.com/mafE089yZF

Baltimore should be in contention for the Super Bowl, but when you face one of the most consistently top teams in NFL history, nothing is certain.
Of course, a Super Bowl isn’t won solely at the quarterback position, and with the NFL managers’ position rankings released on Tuesday, it’s a great opportunity to find the players most likely to help Jackson win his first Lombardi Trophy this season.
The first to do the cover is Justin Madubuike, fresh from a gigantic Deal with Baltimore:

Madubuike had a stellar season last year and will lead Baltimore’s D-line this year. The Ravens’ strength is perhaps even more impressive on the back end of the defense:

And yet there is still a need for a third safety. Could the Ravens sign another BC player in Justin Simmons?

That would certainly be an interesting addition to the secondary school curriculum. What do you think, Flock?
