Davy Jones, the charismatic frontman of the Monkees, captured hearts all over the world with his boyish charm and infectious energy.

Davy was born in Manchester in 1945 and his path to fame was as captivating as his performances. He began as a young actor in Coronation Street before moving to London’s West End, where he shone in Oliver!

But it wasn’t until 1965, when he joined the Monkees, that he really rose to fame. The band’s catchy tunes and television show made them a sensation, and Davy’s cheeky smile and musical talent made him a fan favorite.

Outside of the Monkees, Davy had a varied career that included solo albums, acting roles, and even a stint as a jockey. Davy Jones was more than just a Monkee; he was a beloved icon.

  1. Where and when was Davy Jones born?

    Davy Jones was born on 30 December 1945 in Openshaw, Manchester.

    His parents were Harry and Doris Jones. He grew up in the Openshaw district of Manchester and had three sisters: Hazel, Beryl and Lynda.

    Davy Jones began his musical career through his early work in the theater.

    As a young actor he played in Coronation Street and gained widespread attention for his role as the Artful Dodger in the West End production of Oliver! This performance led to his appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, the same night that the Beatles performed, which significantly increased his fame.

    He said: “I was watching the Beatles from the side of the stage, I saw the girls going crazy and I said to myself, that’s it, I want a piece of that.”

    In 1965, he released his debut solo single “What Are We Going To Do?”, which reached number 93 in the US. Shortly thereafter, the 19-year-old singer released his debut album of the same name.

    In 1965, Jones joined the Monkees after answering a casting call for a new television show about a rock band.

    He was selected along with Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz. The Monkees quickly became a sensation, both as a television show and as a band, with Jones’ charm and singing talent playing a key role in their success.

    Outside of the Monkees, Davy Jones had a varied and fulfilling career, releasing solo albums that showcased his vocal talent and explored different musical styles.

    His solo works included hits such as “Rainy Jane” and “Girl”.

    Jones also continued his acting career, appearing in various television shows and stage productions. He made guest appearances on popular television series such as Three girls and three boys And Sabrina – Totally Bewitched!and delights his fans with his enduring charm.

    In addition, Davy was a passionate horse racer all his life. In his youth he trained as a jockey and later owned horses and took part in races, fulfilling a childhood dream. His love of horses was an important part of his life and he often took part in equestrian events.

    Davy Jones was married three times and had four children.

    He first married Linda Haines in 1968; the couple had two daughters, Talia Elizabeth and Sarah Lee.

    After their divorce in 1975, he married Anita Pollinger in 1981, with whom he had two more daughters, Jessica Lillian and Annabel Charlotte. This marriage ended in 1996.

    His third marriage was to Jessica Pacheco in 2009, but the two separated at the time of his death in 2012.

    Davy Jones died on February 29, 2012. He died of a heart attack at the age of 66.

    He had experienced chest pains that morning and was admitted to Martin Memorial South Hospital in Stuart, Florida, where he was pronounced dead.

    His bandmate Michael Nesmith said Jones’ “spirit and soul live on in my heart, surrounded by all the lovely people who remember with me the good times and the healing times that were created for so many, including us. I have fond memories. I wish him a safe journey.”

    Peter Tork said “Adios to the Manchester Cowboy” and Micky Dolenz said: “He was the brother I never had and that leaves a huge hole in my heart.”
