Saturday Night Live And Barbie came together for a brilliant, hilarious and extremely catchy sketch called “I’m Just Pete”, the text of which describes the mystery surrounding Pete Davidson. When Barbie will be released in 2023, Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster has completely overtaken the pop culture conversation The audience dressed in pink and flocked to the cinema in droves. Barbie became the highest-grossing film of the year and was the first film directed entirely by a woman to gross over a billion dollars.

The music in Barbie itself was a huge revelation. Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night”, Lizzo’s “Pink” and Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”, which won Barbie‘s only Oscar, were all great tracks. The catchiest song is undoubtedly the power ballad “I’m Just Ken”a stirring tune about Ken’s feelings of inadequacy despite his successful appearance. The song was such a hit that SNL has filmed a parody with presenter and former cast member Pete Davidson. Davidson’s personal life has always been a subject of gossip and Davidson addresses everything that has been said about him in the recorded sketch.

“I’m Just Ken” was also nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, and although the film did not win, many critics cited Ryan Gosling’s spirited performance of the song as the highlight of the ceremony.

Hosted by Pete Davidson SNL for the first time in the premiere of the 49th seasonwhich aired on October 14, 2023. It was a pretty strong episode, but the sketch “I’m Just Pete” was on another level. Pete Davidson can often SNL sketch and when he’s front and center, it’s hard to look away. The sketch follows most of the beats of “I’m Just Ken” in Barbiebut the text is replaced with a story about Pete Davidson’s sometimes sordid but always entertaining life. The pink and blue set and Pete’s striking outfit are perfect recreations of Gerwig’s film.

In the sketch, Davidson bursts into the arms of other cast members and pokes fun at his lack of range, particularly the low ratings of his Peacock show. Bupkisalso starring Edie Falco and Joe Pesci. The sketch then turns into a musical in which Davidson discusses the difficulties and problems he has had to face, as well as the many paradoxes that come with his very public life. He describes how no one seems to be interested in his work and how everyone is interested in everything but his comedy.

There are references to his feud with Kanye West, whose name he cannot say for legal reasons, but the image of Yeezy that flashes on the screen and is hard to miss is one of the sketch’s best jokes.

He also pokes fun at his own appearance, admitting that even he isn’t sure how he came to be considered “hot.” There are references to his feud with Kanye West, whose name he isn’t allowed to say; but Ye’s image flashing on the screen that you miss is one of the sketch’s best jokes. Davidson sings about his many high-profile love affairs and references some other real-world stories, like when he bought a boat with Colin Jost (via Braked) and drove a car into a house where his former partner Chase Sui Wonders was present (via TMZ).

The musical guest on Pete Davidson’s episode was Ice Spice, who sang “In Ha Mood” and “Pretty Girl.”

Each line contains a poignant, funny, and self-deprecating fact from Davidson’s life, sung by either Davidson or the rest of the cast as different versions of “Pete,” and it’s worth reading through the lyrics for each Easter egg.

“(Intro sketch: Andrew Dismukes & Punkie Johnson)

AD: “So what is Pete going to do anyway?”

PJ: “I have no idea, he just has some kind of personality.”

AD: “Yes, why is he hosting again? He just left and his show wasn’t exactly a hit.”

PJ: “I know, right? What if you get Joe Pesci and Edie Falco but no viewers?”

(Verse 1: Pete Davidson)

Nobody cares about the work I do

I also did a show with Joe Pesci

And nobody but my mother streamed it

When I’m high, I do things like call Colin Jost

And say: “Dude, we should buy a boat”

They tell me I have “asshole eyes”

Nevertheless, I never sleep alone at night

(Choir: Pete Davidson)

Because I’m just Pete

With anyone else I would be a three

But I think I like guys from comedy

Because it’s an ugly industry

I’m just Pete

Look like a meth junkie on the street

People on the internet still call me “Skete”

Because of a guy whose name I’m not allowed to say

(Interlude: Pete Davidson and Black Pete)

PD: Petes, gather around

BP: Black Pete. So it’s just Black Pete? OK

(Verse 2: First update, Pete, Met Gala, Pete and Pete Davidson)

FUP: I am 1.93 m tall and weigh 45 kg, but I have strength

MGP: Do you think it’s hot that I smoke cigarettes in the shower?

PD: And out of the blue, about three times a year, when you least expect it

I’m going to rehab

(Bridge: Pete Davidson)

Can you feel this energy? (Energy, energy, energy, energy)

That famous BD energy? (Energy, energy, energy, energy)

Can you feel this energy? (Energy, energy, energy, energy)

Is that, Pete, bipolar energy? (Energy, energy, energy, energy)

(Choir: Pete Davidson)

I’m just Pete

My dating life is not discreet

I do a lot of advertising

For everything except my comedy

I’m just Pete and I like mugs

I am mentally ill and take drugs

But hey, I’m still in Super Bowl commercials

My name is Pete (and mine too)

I deleted all my online accounts

Because the doctor said the Internet was not good for me

Baby, I’m Pete

(Outro: Pete Davidson, Barbie)

B: “Are you ready, Pete?”

PD: “Sure, Barbie. Oh, not again.”

Bupkis was cancelled after the SNL episode featuring Davidson aired, although it appears to have been an amicable departure. Davidson’s reference to the show in the sketch may have been because he knew he was going to end it anyway and was comfortable with bringing himself up. That’s not all for Davidson, however, and he continues to work prolifically, currently having four films in post-production. Just like Ken in BarbiePete Davidson is a talented and hard-working professional, even if he doesn’t always know exactly why.
