Gene Deckerhoff returns as Bucs radio announcer

20 June 2024

Back for 2024.

My goodness, he’s still among us.

A year ago, there was some doubt as to whether the Bucs’ radio voice, Gene Deckerhoff, would return to the team. He had retired from his position as Florida State’s football and basketball voice, and some in One Buc Palace were beginning to doubt whether Deckerhoff would retire.

Last year, the door was open for him. If he wanted the job, it was his. Not only did Deckerhoff stay with the Bucs, he’s coming back in 2024!

This season marks Deckerhoff’s 36th year as a radio commentator for the Bucs. He will be joined by his longtime partner in the locker room, analyst and former Bucs tight end Dave Moore, who can be heard on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

The Bucs also announced that WFLA-TV Channel 8 will continue to be the Bucs’ preseason TV home. Chris Myers will also be doing game commentary in the same booth and Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback/safety Rondé Barber will serve as game analyst alongside Myers.

There will be no changes to the radio broadcasts and the TV preparatory broadcasts. The same homes, the same voices.

Joe doesn’t understand how strange it will be to one day hear a Bucs radio broadcast and not Deckerhoff. Joe is glad he’s back.

Fire the cannons!
