Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced support for 31 small businesses across Michigan through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Match on Main program.
Match on Main is a grant program that provides up to $25,000 in funding to eligible small businesses through a competitive application process. The 31 businesses were awarded a total of $748,018 in grants to strengthen downtowns in communities across the state, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
During the application period for FY24, a total of 113 applicants from 80 municipalities applied.
“Michigan’s small businesses are the beating heart of our main streets and downtowns,” said Governor Whitmer. “Today’s Match on Main grants will create 76 good-paying jobs and provide 31 small businesses across Michigan with the support they need to grow and thrive. Together, we are strengthening our economy and making communities across Michigan more attractive places to live, work and invest. Let’s continue to work together to make sure everyone can make it in Michigan.”
Among the award winners were two Oakland County businesses, each receiving a $25,000 grant: Best Friends Child Care, LLC Early Childhood Education Center in Oak Park, https://bestfriendsearlychildhood.com and Lone Light Spirits, a distillery in Ferndale, https://lonelightspirits.com. The distillery plans to open a tasting room at 23622 Farmington Road in Farmington.
