Premier League trio, including Champions League club, considers season loan for outsider with 31 appearances

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is set to be transferred by three Premier League clubs this summer.

The 28-year-old is expected to leave Manchester City for the upcoming 2024/25 season, having started just twice and made ten appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side in the recently concluded 2023/24 season.

Phillips, who joined Manchester City for £42 million in July 2022, started 45 times on the bench for the Sky Blues but was not used and subsequently moved to West Ham on a short-term loan in January.

The Englishman made ten appearances during his time at the London Stadium, featuring in eight Premier League games and two UEFA Europa League matches for David Moyes’ side, but was the subject of an angry incident with Hammers supporters outside St James’ Park.

Phillips was photographed shouting abuse at fans as he boarded the West Ham bus in Tyneside after the midfielder conceded a penalty in the Hammers’ dramatic 4-3 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League in March.

The midfielder was forced to return to the Etihad Stadium in May due to a thigh injury but was awarded a Premier League medal following the Blues’ recent Premier League title win.

The 28-year-old has won six trophies since joining Manchester City, including the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Phillips could be forced to accompany Manchester City on their upcoming four-match US tour, despite reports that three Premier League clubs are interested in loaning the midfielder for the 2024/25 season.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle United are interested in the 28-year-old, but the midfielder is in “no hurry” to make a decision about his next steps.

Etihad chiefs are said to have informed Phillips that they would be willing to approve another loan move for the midfielder, despite previous speculation that Manchester City could sell the England international this summer.

Manchester City will play Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea as part of an upcoming tour of the United States later this month as Guardiola’s team begin preparations for the start of the new season.

Joao Cancelo, who has not played competitively for the Sky Blues since January 2023, could also take part in pre-season if there is no clarity about the full-back’s future.
