SONG PREMIERE: Garrett Hendricks reflects on Springsteen & Childers in the swampy twang anthem “Adrift In The American Dream”:

“The two biggest influences on this song were Bruce Springsteen and Tyler Childers. I grew up listening to a lot of Springsteen that my dad gave me, and I was fascinated by the Nebraska and Born in the USA Albums,” says Garrett Hendricks on his new single “Adrift in the American Dream”, which Slide will premiere below.

Hendricks certainly has a way of telling and presenting a story, much like his two role models who equally pack stadiums. While Hendricks is still making his way onto the club scene, this Pacific Northwest native is more than capable of getting thousands of people listening. You don’t have to be from the Midwest to tell a true story about America’s plight – especially in an election year.

Hendricks offers listeners a classy yet raspy voice with just the right amount of honky-tonk charm and charged Americana. While the song reflects its heroes, it moves into the soulful realms of Bruce Hornsby & the Range, Marty Stuart and Drive-By Truckers.

“When writing this song, I wanted to find a similar balance between something that feels anthemic and haunting, but also has lyrics that are kind of stark and story-based and get to the heart of some hard truths about our world and our country,” Hendricks adds.

“I put all my fears about the state of America into this fictional love/coming-of-age story. I had a conversation with a friend where one of us said, ‘We’re just outsiders in the American dream.’ I took that and tried to make it into a Springsteen-style song that was both anthemic and fearless in its content. I had an injury with some complications that left me financially hurt, and that showed me how easy it can be in America for an accident or an unfortunate scenario like gun violence to derail our chances of achieving what we want in life. Without affordable healthcare or sensible gun control, our American dream can be down to fate. So I took those fears and wrapped them up in this movie-like story about two young lovers and what they go through.”
