The Largely Literary Theater Company presents “Ghosts of the Civil War: Shades of Blue and Gray” as part of the Wayne County Civil War Round Table program on Tuesday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Wayne County Historical Society Schoolhouse in Wooster.

Parking is available on-site (entrance via Spink Street) and along the fence in the Drug Mart parking lot. For more information, visit waynehistoricalohio.org.

Featuring Largely Literary Theater Company co-founders Sara Showman (from the South) and Mark Dawidziak (from the North), the program explores the Civil War with a mix of haunting stories, literary excerpts, songs and history.

The spooky tour begins in Ohio and tells stories from Marietta, a stop on the Underground Railroad, the still-standing iron smelter at Hope, and the two Confederate cemeteries that were part of the prisoner of war camps at Columbus and Johnson’s Island.

The journey continues with stories from South Carolina and Virginia, with a special section on Abraham Lincoln and the hauntings of the White House. Literary excerpts include poems by Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. Selected songs from the Civil War era are heard throughout the one-act performance.

Dawidziak and Showman founded the touring theater company in 2002 to promote literacy, literature and live theater. They have performed shows in more than 70 communities in Ohio and their travels have taken them to states such as New York, Connecticut, Virginia and Michigan.
