Classic and current Frieza actors voice the character side by side in a fun Anime-Con video

The Dragon Ball franchise has produced some high-profile antagonists over the years, but there’s a reason why Frieza, the Saiyan race’s biggest hater, has become the series’ most recurring villain.

Few anime characters are bursting with as much personality as the Emperor of Universe 7, and the lasting impression the character has made on fans is largely thanks to the voice actors behind him. Two of those actors, Linda Young and Daman Mills, were both at the recent Rhode Island Anime Con, providing fans with a sort of charming Frieza competition.

Young was the first American actor to play the role of the iconic villain, so if you grew up with Dragon Ball Z and remember Goku’s initial transformation into a Super Saiyan on Namek, she’s probably your first encounter with the character.

It was Chris Ayres who provided Frieza’s English voice in 2010 and voiced the character in the popular fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ in 2017. Daman Mills was Ayres’ replacement and took over the role after Ayres’ tragic death in late 2021.

If you’ve seen Dragon Ball Super or are planning on picking up the upcoming Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, then it’s Mills’ voice you’ll hear behind the DB villain.

Both actors were recently in attendance at the Rhode Island Anime Con and took some time for some fanservice while producing the short but entertaining Frieza face-off video below:
