Man involved in morning disturbance faces multiple charges
WADESBORO — In the early morning hours of June 23, neighbors on Mayflower Road were awakened by knocks on their doors. When they answered, residents reported finding a man allegedly intoxicated and using foul language at their door. The dispatch center was flooded with calls and at 4:52 a.m., Sergeant Mario El Kobersy arrived on Mayflower Road.
Summer night markets are a great success
WADESBORO — On Saturday, June 22, the Anson County Farmers Market kicked off its Summer Night Markets with a fan-selected screening of the Emojis movie. Visitors were invited to vote between several selected films via an online poll on the Anson County Farmers Market’s interactive Facebook page.
Harvest Ministry Outreach Center hosts the first Miss King Elite beauty pageant
WADESBORO – The first annual Miss King Elite beauty pageant opened with an invocation by Pastor Steve Adams of Harvest Ministries Outreach Center, where the event was held Saturday, June 29. Master of ceremonies and coach Stacey Huntley also served as the event’s pageant coordinator.
Father-daughter dance
WADESBORO – Beautifully dressed daughters clung to the arms of their equally beautifully dressed fathers as they danced at the Father-Daughter Dance hosted by Brandi Liles at the Harvest Ministries Outreach Center on Saturday, June 22.

ROCKINGHAM — This week, the sounds of basketballs being dribbled during skills drills and the noise of shoe soles pounding the court filled the East Rockingham Elementary School gymnasium during the fourth annual CHURCH Summer Basketball Camp. Sponsored by coach Chellia Nelson, the camp has seen increased success and participation with each new camp season.
Studio 256’s Arts and Crafts Camp was a great success
WADESBORO — The unassuming green-shuttered brick building on South Green St. hides a brightly decorated shop filled with spools of thread in every color imaginable, countless craft ideas and striped and patterned fabrics to inspire the imagination. Studio 256 is a wonderland of creativity and the perfect place to hold a summer arts and crafts camp for kids, as owner Heather Edwards has done for the past few summers.

ANSON – Local author Irene Harrington is trying her hand at a different medium: the screen.
Two local cheerleading teams reach the state championship
ANSON – On June 9, 2024, 14 young ladies from two Anson County (KEA) teams traveled to Campbell University and competed in the state competition with cheerleaders from Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. Xtreme Intensity, our national winners from last year, are undefeated as of 2023. They won the state competition this year and worked extremely hard. The newly formed Xtreme Starz team won second place and will also be traveling to Nationals. We look forward to two teams bringing home national titles in cheerleading this year.
