Shaboozey talks about the genre mix “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” + being a fan of Post Malone

After a few months in the Mediabase Country Charts, Shaboozey‘S “A bar song (Tipsy)” is finally in the top 5 and its steady rise continues. Meanwhile, it has just reached number 1 on Billboard‘s all-genre Hot 100 chart. Not bad for a country song that came out of Shaboozey’s desire to reinterpret a hip-hop song he heard as a kid.

“I just wanted to flip a song from the early 2000s because that’s something I saw on TV… a lot of 2000s R&B and hip-hop,” he tells ABC Audio. He chose “Tipsy,” the rapper’s debut single J-Kwon.

“It’s cool to bring something that I grew up with into this space that I’m in right now and that I’m such a big fan of right now,” he says. “And it’s been cool to bring those worlds together so seamlessly.”

While “A Bar Song” is definitely on many fans’ summer playlists, Shaboozey says his personal playlist is packed with the music of another artist who is an expert at mixing genres.

“Oh man. My boy Article (Malone). Yeah. I love Posty,” said Shaboozey when asked who’s providing the soundtrack for his summer. “…(M)on, it’s going to be a post summer. He’s releasing (his album), so it could be a jam-packed playlist of all Posty hits!” (AUDIO IS ABC 1-TO-1)

Posty’s country debut album, F-1 billionwith “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallace and “Pour Me a Drink” with Blake Sheltonwill be released on August 16th.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” can be found on Shaboozey’s latest record, Where I was is not where I am goingnow outside.
