4-star receiver Jacob Washington joins Wolverines in 2025

Michigan football has been gaining momentum in recruiting players all summer and on July 9, that culminated in the current No. 11 ranked class in the country (247Sports Composite). The Wolverines have added 11 players in the 2025 recruiting cycle since mid-June, including a big, burly wide receiver prospect who reminds us of a player recently selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2024 NFL Draft…

Hometown: Marerro, La.
National Ranking: No. 261 overall
Pos. Rank: No. 35 Wide Receiver
State Ranking: No. 8 in Louisiana

A visit to Ann Arbor over the weekend in late June was enough to convince Washington that Michigan was the place for him, as the Louisiana native chose the Wolverines on June 24 out of a final round that also included Missouri, Baylor and Georgia Tech. The fast-rising wide receiver, whose prospects have improved significantly recently, has 18 scholarship offers in total, with Penn State, Florida State, Miami and Ole Miss also involved in his recruitment. Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy has done an excellent job luring Washington from the Deep South.

Michigan Wolverines on SI’s opinion:

“Size and length stand out on film. Shows good speed and ability to get behind the defense on ‘go’ routes. Shows ability to throw the football high, especially in the red zone. Gets in and out of his breaks well, creating distance from defenders. Understands how to work back to the quarterback on broken plays and shows a feel for weak spots in the defense that can be exploited.” Player comparison: Cornelius Johnson (2019-23)

Job group recruitment report:

Washington is currently the only wide receiver under contract in Michigan’s 2025 class, but the Wolverines are working on several other candidates at the position. UM is currently the favorite to sign four-star wide-out Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan Andreas Marsch (No. 58 overall player) and three-star receiver Destrehan (La.) Phillip Wright (No. 540), who will announce his commitment on July 13. The Wolverines are also a top 4 finalist for the pass catcher from Red Oak (Texas) Taz Williams Jr.although this recruitment is leaning towards Penn State – Texas A&M and SMU are also in the running. Michigan is a top 5 finalist for high four-star Derek Meadowswith Notre Dame reportedly the most contenders, which also include Alabama, LSU and Georgia. At the beginning of this recruiting cycle, the Wolverines missed the wide receiver targets Quincy Porter And Shaun Terrywho all visited Ann Arbor in mid-June before deciding on Ohio State and Missouri, respectively.
