Blackpink singer Jennie Kim apologizes for vaping indoors after receiving backlash for viral video

Blackpink singer Jennie Kim has apologized after receiving harsh criticism for a video clip showing her smoking an e-cigarette indoors.

The 28-year-old South Korean artist, who appeared in a Calvin Klein commercial earlier this year, apologized through her record label Odd Atelier, also known as OA.

“We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s behavior in the content posted on the 2nd,” the statement said, referring to a YouTube vlog posted to Jennie’s channel earlier this month.

In the clip, the pop star sat on a chair while having his hair and makeup done for a Jacquemus fashion show in Italy.

It continues: “Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake in vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to staff.”

In the clip from the nine-minute video titled “A Moment in Capri with Jennie,” the star put the pen to her mouth and blew out steam moments later.

OA also clarified that the musician had personally apologized to the staff and promised to convey “a more mature and better image” in the future.

Many fans took to Jennie’s Instagram comments to defend her after the criticism.

“Please don’t listen to anyone, you are the queen and WE WILL SUPPORT YOU FOREVER!” one person wrote under her last post.

Someone else added: “I still love you Nini. We learn from the mistakes we make. Hopefully we can be more careful and better in the future. It’s ok.”

“THANK YOU FOR ADMITTING YOUR MISTAKE AND APOLOGIZING SINCERELY TO YOUR EMPLOYEES AND THE PUBLIC. I love you to the moon.”

There was also a note to the singer that read: “You are not wrong and you have no need to apologize to anyone! Just be yourself!”

One proponent argued, “At least the vape smoke smells good. What’s so special about that?”

Last December, Kim announced the launch of her music label before the new year.

In an Instagram story, she wrote: “This year has been full of success and I am so grateful for all the love I have received.”

“I’m also excited for what’s to come, because in 2024 I’ll start my solo journey with a company I founded called OA. Please show lots of love for my new beginning with OA and of course Blackpink.”

The label’s Instagram account stated: “OA, which stands for ODD ATELIER, is a space that aims to create new things that attract attention in a different way than usual or expected. It is a label founded in November 2023 by the artist JENNIE.”
