Summer Sixers back in action against Grizzlies: Game thread

Summer Sixers back in action against Grizzlies: Game thread

Monday night’s opening game was a resounding success for the Summer Sixers. Both of the team’s recent draft picks showed what they could do in their 102-92 victory over Oklahoma City. Jared McCain had a down night shooting from the three-point line, but showed a varied game when it came to getting to the basket and distributing passes. Adem Bona showed a great motor and a willingness to dunk anyone. Meanwhile, Ricky Council IV returned to Summer League older and wiser, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter alone. His three-point shooting has improved significantly since graduating from college, and if that continues, we’ll be seeing him regularly with the big clubs next season.

However, since tonight’s game is the second in a back-to-back, I expect more playing time for the players on the bench who didn’t see as much action in the opening game. As for the opponent, Memphis lost to Utah 97-95 in overtime last night. I’m very excited about Zach Edey, who was selected 9th. The 7-foot-4 center put up big numbers in his Summer League debut, posting 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in 34 minutes. Two of the Grizzlies’ second-round picks, Jaylen Wells and Cam Spencer, are also in the mix. Spencer, a guard from Connecticut, was at his best Monday night, hitting 3 of 5 threes to score 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench. Here’s the full roster for Memphis:

Scotty Pippen Jr. (a name you probably know) led Memphis with 21 points against the Jazz. He, GG Jackson II, Jake LaRavia and Trey Jemison are all players who saw a lot of playing time last season for the injury-depleted Grizzlies. As with Philadelphia, we’ll see if those guys get a lot of playing time again in the back-to-back games.

Monday night was a lot of fun. Let’s hope for an encore while you read along in the comments.
