New Superintendent Taylor shares a message with the MCPS community and asks for feedback

The newly appointed Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) sent a message and feedback survey to MCPS families and staff on Tuesday.

“I believe in the potential of MCPS,” Dr. Thomas Taylor said in a video message on Tuesday.

On Monday, school board members announced that Taylor, a county native, was their choice for the position. Taylor is a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and currently serves as superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools in Virginia.

He will plan several opportunities to connect and hear directly with the school community in the coming weeks, and there will be opportunities for in-person and digital interaction in the fall.

He shared a link to a survey that allows the school community to anonymously provide feedback about MCPS using four questions. Taylor said the feedback will give him insight and “help me get to know our community again in a really meaningful way.”

He said the information would also serve as a launching pad for the school system’s next strategic plan.

“I believe my role as superintendent is to create a culture of support so that everyone can do their job to the best of their ability,” Taylor said in his video.

MCPS said Taylor has more than 25 years of experience as an educator and six years as a school board member. The school board will vote on his appointment next week.

Taylor said that regardless of any differences of opinion, “you can be assured that we will work together to accomplish great things for the children of MCPS,” which he said is especially important today as inequities are addressed and leaders face the challenges associated with limited financial resources.

“I believe trust must be earned, and I look forward to earning your trust through transparency, a strong focus on equity, collaboration, and actions that are in the best interests of our students and staff.”
