As the first glance suggests, it is not entirely clear whether Lucius completely forgets his life alongside his uncle Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and his mother Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) or whether he represses it.

One thing is certain – the attitude that Maximus (Russell Crowe) took towards the Emperor in the original film left its mark on Lucius, who greatly admires the deceased’s courageous deeds. Like the man he admires so much, Paul Mescal’s Lucius takes a page or two from Maximus’ playbook and Gladiator II Trailer, in which he rallies his fellow warriors to tackle their deadly obstacles as a team. Lucius calls for the head of Roman general Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), saying his thirst for blood will not be quenched until he takes the officer’s life.

Meanwhile, it is entirely unclear whether Lucilla recognizes her son when she sees him in the fighting arena, although there is a touching moment between the two in which she gives the ruthless fighter a ring that once belonged to Maximus.

Mostly Gladiator II The trailer looks pretty promising for viewers who have wondered how Ridley Scott could have dreamed of continuing his classic historical drama. Although Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger have already drawn criticism for making their characters too reminiscent of Phoenix’s Commodus, they each seem to bring their own manic spin to co-rulers Geta and Caracalla, and the teaser is dripping with blood and selfish aspirations.

We look forward to learning more about where this comes from as we approach the film’s November release date.
