Review of “The Midnight Feast” (no spoilers, I promise)

It’s opening night for The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort on England’s south coast, and no expense has been spared. Founder Francesca Woodland has created a pristine hideaway surrounded by an icy sea on one side and an ancient forest on the other. But beneath the burning midsummer sun, darkness falls – old friends and enemies roam among the guests – and almost everyone has a reason to hate Francesca.

When secrets from 15 years ago come to light, it’s obvious that someone has a vendetta against Francesca. But what secrets lurk in the forest? Everyone has a plan, but not everyone will survive the Midnight Feast.

Foley knows how to write a good thriller. This story mixes folklore, flashbacks and social commentary into a well-paced, engaging read. It also references classic films like Hitchcock’s The Birds and features the point of view of several characters, giving readers a fascinating insight into the complex web of mystery that is being pieced together.

If you’re a fan of The White Lotus, Midsommar, Blair Witch, or even the real Fyre Festival, this book is for you. Foley does a good job of mixing old folk legends with chic, modern style, and the tense contrast between the two is often so striking that it will keep you hooked. Add in a little social tension – the lower-class locals are furious at the arrival of the Manor’s super-rich guests – some 15-year-old secrets, and a mysterious cult-like coven, and you have one of the best thrillers of the year. This is a book you can devour.

The Midnight Festival is Foley’s seventh novel and a New York Times Bestseller. Find it now at your local bookstore, Half Price Books, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon.
