Once again, country is king of the music industry. Previously, Morgan Wallen and Post Malone topped the charts with “I Had Some Help.” We also see Beyoncé reign supreme with “Texas Hold ‘Em” and Luke Combs dominate with his cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” Now, we have a new name in the ring with Shaboozey.

Recently, Shaboozey has knocked countless competitors off the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Post Malone and Morgan Wallen have been battling with Sabrina Carpenter for the number one spot for the past few weeks. Meanwhile, Shaboozey has been on her way to dethroning them all along.

He reacts to the breakthrough moment of his career with immense triumph and gratitude, writing on X (formerly known as Twitter) in all caps: “WE DID IT, WE ARE NO. 1, I LOVE YOU ALL, HAPPY A BAR SONG DAY, GRANT ME A DOUBLE SHOT OF WHISKEY!”

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” succeeds in recontextualizing past successes. It interpolates J-Kwon’s 2004 rap hit “Tipsy,” a club jock anthem about drinking in the club. However, Shaboozey attempts to cloak the original in flannel, Carhartt, and woody guitars and strings.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, he talks about the change in tone and his inspiration behind it. “Everyone has heard ‘Tipsy.’ I think every single person. And everyone definitely goes to the bar. Going to the bar and then getting drunk, getting tipsy and then going to the club – it’s the same thing,” Shaboozey explains. “Music is so transcended. It’s cool to see that everyone knows this song and everyone knows this one, so there’s a certain commonality there that people like to drink and party.”
