Something Corporate releases “Death Grip”, the first new song in 20 years: Stream

Something Corporate’s first song in 20 years appears at the start of their reunion tour

Andrew McMahon pulls double duty (technically) on “Death Grip,” a new collaborative single from his solo artist Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and his newly reunited band Something Corporate.

With lush instrumentation and a good dose of reverb, “Death Grip” finds McMahon slowing down and searching for a state of balance in his life. “Doing therapy over Zoom/ Afternoons on the patio/ Flashback to the year I lost my mind,” McMahon narrates at the beginning of the song, later alluding to mental struggles, writer’s block, and general insecurity. But by the time the group reaches the chorus, McMahon finds the peace he’s looking for, singing, “You can’t control it, life is the ocean/ Waves are waves.” Stream “Death Grip” below.

Although Andrew McMahon has been very active over the past decade with his project In the Wildnerness, Death Grip is Something Corporate’s first official release in 20 years. Andrew McMahon will join Something Corporate again for the start of their reunion tour, which kicks off tonight in Brooklyn and continues sporadically throughout the summer and fall. It will be Something Corporate’s first tour in 14 years and will include a stop at the Four Chord Festival in Pittsburgh. Tickets for Something Corporate are available here.

Meanwhile, Andrew McMahon published in the Wilderness Stop fighting the wind in 2023, McMahon’s fourth album under that name. He also performed at Bonnaroo’s Emo Superjam last weekend, where he performed “I Woke Up in a Car” by Something Corporate and “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World alongside host Dashboard Confessional.
