Famous rapper Drake bets $300,000 on Canada to beat Argentina in the semifinals of the 2024 Copa America

Drake had previously bet that Argentina would defeat France in the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Rapper Drake took a playful dig at Lionel Messi when he bet $300,000 on Canada to win the 2024 Copa America semi-final against Argentina.

Many were surprised when the Canadian national soccer team, led by American coach Jesse Marsch, reached the semifinals of a major international tournament in the United States. They can now compete for the top prize as they are just one game away.

To reach the final, however, they will have to overcome the toughest hurdles, including eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi and defending champions Argentina. But anything is possible, and the people of Canada are not afraid to dream big.

Drake, a Toronto native, is one of those guys. Despite having already witnessed Canada lose 2-0 to La Albiceleste in the opening match of the 2024 Copa America, he continues to support the Canadian cause financially.

The six-figure payment depends on Marsch’s players making it to the championship, and the Grammy winner joked about how things “could get Messi.”

“One Dance” rapper Drake could win $2.8 million if Canada beats Argentina, and his presence is expected at a highly anticipated game in New Jersey, where the Canucks are already assured of at least a third playoff spot.

The two nations have only met twice so far. Argentina won 5-0 in a friendly match in 2010.

Messi will play in the semi-finals, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni announced. Due to a thigh injury, the 37-year-old missed the final group match against Peru on June 29. He returned five days later for the quarter-final match against Ecuador, where he played the full 90 minutes.
