Coraline Studio Laika is shooting a live-action film with Brian Duffield, Lord and Miller as producers

LaikaThe studio, best known for stop-motion films such as 2009’s Coraline, is making a live-action film written and directed by Brian Duffield.

The new film is called Crumble and is about a couple who go on an adventure around the world to find a cure for an ancient curse. A release date for Crumble has not yet been announced.

According to Variety, “Crumble” will be written and directed by Duffield, who previously directed “Spontaneous” (2020) and “No One Will Save You” (2023).

What else do we know about Laika’s Crumble film?

Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce the film along with Duffield and Aditya Sood. Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida serve as executive producers.

“I’ll never forget watching Coraline on opening night at AMC Burbank 16 and wondering who these wonderful new geniuses were,” said Duffield. “I can’t wait to make a film with them and hopefully live up to their reputation, and I couldn’t be more excited to embark on a new adventure with my friends at Lord Miller.”

Matt Levin of Laika added: “We are thrilled to be working with Brian and the entire team at Lord Miller on this special film. Brian has such a unique voice and ‘Crumble’ perfectly embodies the bold, emotional and imaginative style of storytelling that we stand for at Laika. Lord Miller is in a class of his own and we couldn’t ask for a better creative team to bring this story to life.”

In addition to Coraline, Laika’s filmography includes ParaNorman (2012), The Boxtrolls (2014), Kubo and the Two Strong Men (2016), and Missing Link (2019). Travis Knight is currently working on another stop-motion film for the movie, titled Wildwood, which is expected to be released in 2025.

In 2021, Laika announced that they were working on their first live-action film, an adaptation of John Brownlow’s novel Seventeen.
