Police investigate death of man found in apartment; suspect charged with premeditated murder

Montgomery County police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man found in a Silver Spring residence Tuesday morning.

The press release states: “The Montgomery County Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death of a 45-year-old man found in a residence in the 11400 block of Stewart Lane.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 1:06 a.m., officers from the 3rd Precinct responded to a fight in progress. Upon arrival, officers encountered 46-year-old Wesley Cooper of Gaithersburg.

The officers then discovered an adult man in the apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was taken to the coroner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

Cooper was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault and premeditated murder. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit awaiting a bond hearing.

The name of the deceased will be disclosed after proper notification to the next of kin.”
