Habitat for Humanity introduces the Carpenter’s Club

Habitat for Humanity doesn’t just build homes, it builds families and futures. Executive Director Brian Young believes that now more than ever, this is a critical step for the success of the community.

“We have learned that safe and affordable housing helps families succeed through better employment opportunities, improved education, health services, and civic pride and engagement,” said Young. That’s the reason behind a new program at Habitat for Humanity.

Launched last week, Carpenter’s Club offers memberships to businesses and individuals that can help contribute to the success of Habersham County.

Young is convinced that your commitment as a member will make it possible to build more homes.

“There are currently five families on the waiting list and many applications to review. The homes will be tailored to the needs of the individual and family size,” Young added.

Number of Habitat houses

Currently, Habitat is completing construction of a home for a Habersham family that will be completed in about two months. “We will begin construction on two more homes on Saturday, July 20th at 10 a.m. These homes will be our 79th and 80th.”

The ceremony location is 328 Rockford Creek Rd, Clarkesville.

Given the cost increases over the past four years, it’s become difficult, Young says. The Carpenter’s Club is a low-cost way for businesses and individuals to donate and guarantees the necessary funds to ensure a steady flow of money for home construction month after month.

“Each partner family needs to be involved in the process. They need to complete the mortgage application and be approved for it,” Young explained.

“We also require 300 hours of personal effort, whether it’s building the home, volunteering at Habitat’s Restore or helping others build their homes.”

100 percent of the proceeds from donations through The Carpenter’s Club go towards building the house.

As a member of the Carpenter’s Club, there are various donation amounts. The journeyman is any donation per month up to $25. As a loyal member, you will receive a Carpenter’s Club sticker.

The Foreman is the second level with a donation of $25 or more. This club level receives a Carpenter’s Club t-shirt and sticker.

The Craftsman level costs $50 or more and includes a t-shirt, sticker, and 25% off at The Restore twice a month.

The Master Builder is a monthly donation of $100 or more with 50% off at The Restore twice a month, t-shirt and stickers.

Young would be happy if everyone became a member of this exciting club. “It’s about building. We build community, families, homes and success.”
