With the Google Mini Euro Championship 2024, fans can be part of the action

Even as Euro 2024 draws to a close, fans can compete against each other based on their fandom in the Google Mini Cup. Fans can use their mobile device to play a game that puts them in the role of a penalty taker. Fittingly, penalties were a regular feature at the Euros, with both England and France reaching the semi-finals by winning a penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.

The game is only available on mobile and allows fans to choose which team they support. The score they accumulate during their attempt goes into a total that shows how the two sides compare to each other. Of course, this has no bearing on the games at Euro 2024. Still, it shows the support each team receives from the global population and how savvy those fans are at video games.

Here are the steps to play the Euro 2024 Mini Cup on Google as we head into the final three matches of the tournament in Germany. It follows the pattern of previous Google Mini Cup games, such as the one for the 2022 World Cup.

Play the Google Mini Cup for the Euro 2024

As a reminder, this is only available on mobile devices. It is not possible to access the Google Mini Cup on your desktop or laptop as you have to move your thumb around the screen to play.

  1. Visit the Google search engine on your mobile browser.
  2. In the dialog box, search for “Euro 2024”.
  3. You will see the game plan and a small blue soccer ball in the bottom right. Click on the blue soccer ball.
  4. Choose the team you want to support. It will be a contest between the two teams that will play the next match. You can also bet on the other match if it hasn’t taken place yet by searching for the two nations on Google and looking at the Euro 2024 schedule.
  5. You now see a goalkeeper moving horizontally back and forth on his line.
  6. Your goal is to hit the ball upwards towards the open part of the goal depending on the position of the goalkeeper. The more goals you score, the faster the goalkeeper moves along the line, making the game more difficult.
  7. The number of goals you score will count towards the total leading to a friendly match between the two nations.

You can also keep track of how popular the teams are throughout the tournament. After you finish your game, you can click on the statistics button. There you can see the total points of the teams from the competition. At the time of publication, Turkey is at the top of the rankings.

Millions of players

As it is a competition between players from all over the world, fans are not required to support the country they live in. However, certain countries certainly lead the way in terms of popularity. Quarter-finalists Turkey scored over 800 million goals during their Google Mini Cup campaign. Portugal were second but were over 400 million behind Turkey. Therefore, it will be hard for Spain or France, who are third and fifth respectively, to challenge Turkey for the top spot.

Regardless, the Google Mini Cup is a fun way to show your support for a team while also testing how good your video game skills are.
