NEW YORK, July 8, 2024 – The ASCAP Foundation is awarding its first grant to support artists who identify as female and strive to make their voices heard through songwriting.

The ASCAP Foundation’s In Her Voice Scholarship benefits two undergraduate or graduate students who identify as female and are ASCAP members or not affiliated with any other performing arts organization. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must submit a song that addresses socially conscious themes of women’s empowerment.

A generous donation partially funds She Is The Music’s In Her Voice scholarship.

“We hope this scholarship will advance the careers of promising female songwriters while promoting equality and inclusion in higher education and the music industry,” said the Executive Director of the ASCAP Foundation Nicole George-Middleton. “We are thrilled to partner with She Is The Music and provide this opportunity to aspiring musicians.”

The application period for the ASCAP Foundation’s “In Her Voice” scholarship began Monday (July 8) and ends Wednesday (July 31) at 11:59 p.m. PT. Applicants will be judged by industry experts on originality, overall quality and craftsmanship of the song, as well as their ability to portray socially conscious themes of women’s empowerment.
