In November, Dwayne Johnson And Chris Evans are teaming up for a holiday-themed action film, and I’m worried that their streak of Rotten Tomatoes flops will continue. However, when a film’s trailer finally gives audiences their first look at the movie, it can completely derail a seemingly solid project.

Red One seems too serious for a comedy

The main reason I’m nervous about Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie is because of the Red One Trailer. First the film seemed to have great potential. Johnson and Evans were just two of an all-star cast that also included JK Simmons, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Kiernan Shipka. Even though the premise seemed a bit silly, I thought I could trust these actors. But now that the trailer has premiered, my hopes are completely dashed. What could have been a hilarious action hit now looks like overly serious fun.

On its own, this premise is a bit silly, but with the right tone, it could have convinced me.

The Red One The film follows Johnson as Callum Drift, the head of security at the North Pole. After Santa Claus is kidnapped, he must team up with a famous bounty hunter, Evans’ Jack O’Malley, to track down the red-suited icon and, I assume, save Christmas. On its own, this premise is a bit silly, but with the right tone, I could have been convinced. Unfortunately, the trailer seems to have the completely wrong idea. It seems as though the entire project takes the concept of the film far too seriouslywhich makes the sound sound wrong.

I predict that Red One won’t do very well when it premieres in November, which is disappointing considering Dwayne Johnson’s recent Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Although the actor has amassed several very successful films that I love, the last few years have not been as strong. For example, In 2021, Johnson starred in two films: Jungle Cruise And Red warning. Although Jungle Cruise received a rather average score of 63%, Red warning was a flop. The action film got a measly 37%. I have to say, the following years were not much better.

While 2022 began with a small success for Johnson, DC League of Super Pets, which brought in a solid 72%, the second half of the year came to an abrupt halt with Black Adam. The superhero film reached 38%which gave Johnson a second green splat score in just two years. I think this failure is even worse than the others because Johnson was the absolute star of this film. Where Red warning And Jungle Cruise including major co-stars, Black Adam Rotten Tomatoes relied entirely on Johnson. Thus, this Rotten Tomatoes rating Red a possible failure even worse.

I hate to say it, but Chris Evans’ winning streak is even worse. Like Johnson, the last few years have not been so kind to Evans. Since 2019, the actor has received four green splat scores. The first came with the film Diving resort on the Red Sea, which received a critics rating of 29%. Three years later Evans continued the series with three disappointments in a row. The Grey Man received 45 %, Ghostly 25% and Pain Hustler 23%. As much as it pains me, I have to assume that Red One will only reinforce this trend.

The premiere was scheduled for December 2023, but was postponed by the SAG-AFTRA strike. The release is now scheduled for November 15, 2024.

In the end, I hope that my intuition will Red One is wrong. Trailers give an idea of what a film will be like, but they can often only show a small part of a larger project.
