Jani Chacko Uthup, husband of veteran singer Usha Uthup, dies at the age of 78

The news of Jani Chacko Uthup’s demise has left a void in the hearts of many who knew him. Besides his wife Usha Uthup, Jani leaves behind his son Sunny and daughter Anjali. The family announced that the last rites will be performed on Tuesday. Jani was a respected personality in the tea plantation sector.

According to the family, Jani complained of feeling unwell while watching television in his apartment and although he was taken to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The medical team confirmed that severe cardiac arrest was the cause of his sudden death.

Usha, who was recently awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan by the Government of India, is deeply mourning the loss of her husband. The couple shared a close bond and Jani was a key pillar of support in Usha’s illustrious career. The couple met in the early 1970s at the iconic Trincas, a landmark that holds sentimental value in the cultural history of Kolkata.

Her daughter Anjali took Instagram to pay an emotional tribute to her late father. She posted a heartfelt message along with a picture of Jani, saying, “Appa… gone too soon… but with such style as you lived… the most beautiful man in the world… we love you, a true gentleman and Lawrencian through and through and the finest tea taster.”
