English voice actors announced for Adult Swim’s upcoming UZUMAKI series

There was no shortage of exciting announcements during Anime Expo 2024. Over the weekend, Adult Swim announced the English voice cast for its upcoming animated series Uzumakia television adaptation of Junji Ito’s supernatural horror manga.

We were able to see the animated series Uzummaki, produced by Production IG USA in collaboration with Adult Swim, for the first time last July. The series description reads:

“Let’s leave this town together,” pleads Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school student born and raised in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, smoke rising from the crematorium, and the residents turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in swirls, a tongue twists, and bodies twist unnaturally. To escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee Kuouzu-cho, but can she escape this turmoil?

Unfortunately, we have not yet received a dubbed preview of the upcoming series, although the English voice actors have been announced. Below are the Japanese and English voice actors of the series:

  • Kirie Goshima – Uki Satake / Abby Trott
  • Shuichi Saito – Shin-ichiro Miki / Robbie Daymond
  • Azami Kurotani – Mariya Ise / Cristina Vee
  • Kirie’s father – Toshio Furukawa / Doug Stone
  • Shuichi’s father – Takashi Matsuyama / Aaron LaPlante
  • Shuichi’s mother – Mika Doi / Mona Marshall
  • Katayama – Katsutoshi Matsuzaki / Max Mittleman

Written and illustrated by Junji Ito, the Uzumaki The manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s weekly Seinen manga magazine. Great Comic Minds from 1998 to 1999. The chapters were then collected into three bound volumes. In North America, Viz Media has published English-language versions of the series, both in monthly magazines and as collected volumes.

The four-part anime series adaptation was first announced at Crunchyroll Expo 2019. It will be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama and music will be composed by Colin Stetson. Although we don’t have a release date yet, it has been confirmed that Uzumaki will air on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block prior to its Japanese premiere.

Unfortunately for fans, Uzumaki has been in development for quite some time now and has experienced several delays during production. We haven’t really seen many teaser trailers over the years. Last year, Creative Director Jason DeMarco stated on social media that the series would premiere in late 2023, which obviously didn’t happen. With the announcement of the English voice actors, there may be a little hope that the series could arrive sometime this year. But again, no official date has been announced yet.
