Local teacher inspires children in West Virginia with a children’s book

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — A local teacher is encouraging young children in West Virginia to get out and discover the beauty of their state in a special way.

Before attending West Virginia University, Adelin Boggs had the opportunity to experience a completely unique adventure that would completely change her view of the Mountain State.

Boggs says that while growing up in West Virginia, she always found it difficult to develop a real connection to the state.

Prior to attending WVU, she had the opportunity to participate in the Adventure West Virginia program through WVU, which offers a variety of state, national and international experiences.

In 2019, she decided to use those experiences as the basis for a children’s book called “The Wonderfully Wild Ones.” The book takes readers through Wheeling staples like the Good Zoo and West Virginia staples like New River Gorge.

“I hope it inspires, like I said, the younger generation to see the value and be a little more inspired by how much we have to offer here. Because like I said, we have a lot of hurdles to overcome in West Virginia, and I think one of the biggest is communicating the value to the people of the state and getting them to appreciate what we have.”

She says she has many ideas for more children’s books, but hasn’t found the time to start the next one yet.

Boggs says when it comes to teaching, she hopes her book inspires her students to follow their dreams and work hard until they achieve their goals.
