Singer Usha Uthup’s husband, Jani Chacko Uthup, has died of a heart attack.

Singer Usha Uthup’s husband, Jani Chacko Uthup, died in Kolkata on Monday at the age of 78. He suffered a cardiac arrest at home during the night.

According to a PTI report, Jani suffered a heart attack while watching TV. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead.

Usha Uthup leaves behind her son Sunny and daughter Anjali. The singer was previously married to the late Ramu.

Jani Chacko Uthup worked in the tea plantation sector. He met Usha on the legendary Trincas in the early 1970s.

His last rites will take place on Tuesday in Calcutta.

Anjali Uthup paid tribute to her late father on social media. She wrote, “Appa… gone too soon… but with such style as you lived… the most beautiful man in the world… we love you, a true gentleman and Lawrencian through and through and the finest tea taster.”

Usha Uthup was honoured with the Padma Bhushan on the eve of the 75th Republic Day, January 25 this year. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, the singer thanked her family and the government for conferring this prestigious award.

The singer was discovered by Dev Anand, who gave her a breakthrough in Bollywood with his 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Her most popular songs include “Hari Om Hari”, “Doston Se Pyaar Kiya”, “One Two Cha Cha Cha” and others.
