Series 30 (of 52) Preview: Marlins visit Houston (x3)

The Astros welcome the Marlins for three games beginning tonight at 7:10 p.m. CT.

This is the first and only series between the two clubs this season. Last year, the Marlins hosted the Astros in three games from August 14-16, losing the opener before winning the final two. In the final game, a 12-5 Houston victory, Houston scored five runs in the first inning and another six in the seventh to earn the win. Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez, Chas McCormick and Mauricio Dubón each had two hits, including home runs for Bregman (19), Tucker (24) and McCormick (17). Justin Verlander (8-6, 3.36) allowed five runs in as many innings but ended up winning. Kendall Graveman, Rafael Montero, Ryne Stanek and Parker Mushinski followed with a hitless inning each.

The guys picked me up today and it could have gone very badly. When I look back, I’m thankful that I was able to get out of some of the trouble that they got me in – that Miami got me in. – Verlander

Houston has played the Marlins 166 times over the past 32 seasons, and the Astros have had an overall lead of 85-81.
