Scarlett Johansson gives update on Amazon series “Just Cause”

Scarlett Johansson says work is progressing Just causeAmazon’s upcoming thriller miniseries based on the 1992 novel by John Katzenbach, in which she stars and also serves as an executive producer.

“It’s taking shape… it’s being written,” she told Deadline at the premiere of her new film in New York City. Fly me to the moon. “There was a little pause during the strike, so it was like we were all on hold for some developments, but now we’re continuing to write.”

Just cause marks Johansson’s first major foray into television. In a highly competitive situation, the project initially secured a direct-to-series order for Amazon’s Prime Video in 2022.

In the TV adaptation, the book’s male protagonist, Miami newspaper columnist Matt Cowart, is gender-swapped. Johansson plays the series’ female lead, Madison “Madi” Cowart, a failed reporter for a Florida newspaper who is tasked with covering the final days of a death row inmate.

Johannson, a two-time Oscar nominee and Tony winner, has a personal connection to the title. At age 10, she appeared in Warner Bros.’ 1995 film adaptation of Katzenbach’s book, in only her second film role. She played the daughter of the main character, who was recast as Harvard law professor Paul Armstrong and played by Sean Connery.

American fiction Filmmaker Cord Jefferson and screenwriter John Wells co-wrote the first episode and are also executive producers of the series. John Wells Productions is on board as a producer of the series.

Just cause comes from the writer Christy Hall (I don’t agree with that, Daddio), Johansson’s These Pictures banner and Warner Bros. TV.

Johannson, who has been a regular guest on Saturday Night Livealso revealed to Deadline that she has not yet been asked whether she will appear in the upcoming 50th season of ^ “SNL: The Wonderful World of Stars”. When asked if we’ll see her, she replied, “I don’t know – you’ll have to ask Lorne.” So stay tuned.
