Notre Dame Football loses star recruit to Michigan Wolverines

Over the weekend, reports emerged that Notre Dame did not appear to be in a good position with the top-ranked recruit of its 2025 class. Days later, the Fighting Irish’s fears were realized when Ivan Taylor officially decommitted from Michigan.

For Michigan, it may be the biggest win yet in the 2025 recruiting cycle, while Notre Dame’s highly regarded defensive backfield suffers a significant setback.

Taylor had previously announced his commitment to Notre Dame on December 1, 2023. Fears of a transfer began to grow when he visited Alabama in early June. Taylor visited Notre Dame a week later, but the fact that he visited Michigan the following week made it clear that there was no certainty that he would ultimately end up with Marcus Freeman and Co.

Make no mistake, even with the strong secondary in the 2025 recruiting class, Notre Dame is taking a significant hit. Taylor was probably the best prepared player of the class regardless of position, so that part certainly hurts.

This probably isn’t a big surprise to Freeman and Co., though. Notre Dame offered a scholarship to safety Brandon Logan of Fort Wayne, Indiana, on June 28, a move they would hardly have made if they thought they were in the best shape to keep Taylor’s commitment.

While Logan looks certain to land in South Bend (he currently has football offers from Indiana and Iowa), Notre Dame will have to pry him away from his current commitment to play baseball at Vanderbilt to land him.
