Kane sells NHL players because of Red Wings value

Kane sells NHL players because of Red Wings value

With all the skills Patrick Kane has in his toolbox, the Detroit Red Wings never imagined he would use them to his advantage.

He will take over the management of the team’s recruitment department.

As it turns out, Kane was instrumental in convincing Vladimir Tarasenko to sign with Detroit. In fact, the entire family contributed assists to getting Tarasenko into the Red Wings uniform.

“His wife (Yana) contacted Amanda (Grahovec, Kane’s partner) and said Detroit seemed interested,” Kane explained. “It’s obviously exciting.

“And then (Red Wings GM) Steve (Yzerman) called me and just asked me about him as a player.”

Kane was completely thrilled with the idea of Tarasenko applying the winged wheel.

“I think he will be a great addition to the group,” Kane said.

Red Wings Kane – a great seller

Who would have thought a year ago that Patrick Kane would become the Don Draper of the Red Wings? His sales pitch to Tarasenko was so detailed that maybe the Detroit Chamber of Commerce should call Kane.

Kane and Tarasenko had a previous relationship from their brief time together at the New York Rangers towards the end of the 2022-23 season, which would also play a role in the negotiations.

“We just got the message across that it’s kind of like New York, kind of like the Greenwich, Connecticut area,” Kane said. “I think the suburbs of Detroit are incredible.”

“I lived there when I was 14 (and played youth hockey), but when I came back I didn’t realize how beautiful they were, what a great place it is to live and raise a family. You have a lot of opportunities, whether it’s playing hockey or the schools that are available to you.

“And then I really like how the rink (Little Caesars Arena) is set up, with the practice rink and the game rink all in one place. If you’re a free agent or a player and you want to come to the Red Wings, there are a lot of positives.”

Tarasenko was traded, and when it was announced that he had agreed to terms with the Red Wings on a two-year deal, Kane couldn’t have been happier.

Tarasenko – a proven winner

“He’s obviously a proven winner,” Kane said. “But I think just from the way he plays, how hard he plays, a lot of players in general, not just young players but the whole team, will see how hard he works and how much effort he puts into every game. And that’s why he has a couple of Stanley Cups under his belt.

“So I think just adding that winning credit and that presence will be a huge benefit to the group.”
