Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘absolutely humiliating’ failure in US history class

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘absolutely humiliating’ failure in US history class

Well, that’s uncomfortable.

Politicians often cite the Founding Fathers when it suits their political agenda, but Marjorie Taylor Greene was given an “absolutely humiliating community note” on X after making a claim about the average age of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Paul Revere is a folk hero of the American Revolution because he warned of the British invasion. George Washington commanded the army that fought against the British and was the first President of the USA. His wingman Alexander Hamilton was Secretary of the Treasury during Washington’s presidency. And Aaron Burr was the third Vice President of the USA who shot Hamilton in a duel.

Yet none of them signed the Declaration of Independence, as Greene would have us believe.

This also applied to James Madison and James Monroe.

“The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, was 44, but more than a dozen were 35 or younger: Thomas Jefferson: 33 John Hancock: 39 James Madison: 25 Alexander Hamilton: 21 James Monroe: 18 Aaron Burr: 20 Paul Revere: 41 George Washington: 44.” Greene posted on X.

However, she got two right.

Both Thomas Jefferson and John Hancock signed the document.
