Why “Duck and Cover” is set in the 1950s

Shortly after the comic series debuted last year, Snyder told CBR why he and Albuquerque decided to Duck and take cover in the 1950s. “Raf and I had this idea some time ago. While we were on American Vampire we were looking for the right time to use it,” he said. “It felt like this particular moment culturally — both in Brazil and here in the States — is one where it seems like there’s a tremendous amount of paranoia. Culturally, (there’s) a tremendous amount of pressure on kids to be very conservative in their thinking and so on. It seemed like the right time to explore this idea of an attack that is not what it seems to be, (and) that is getting worse.”

Duck and take cover The print edition of No. 1 will be released in comic book stores on September 24, 2024.
