Fantasy Golf Value Picks: Top DraftKings PGA TOUR DFS Bargains for the Genesis Scottish Open

Fantasy Golf Value Picks: Top DraftKings PGA TOUR DFS Bargains for the Genesis Scottish Open

Before we head to Royal Troon for the Open Championship next week, the Renaissance Club (par 70, 7,237 yards, fescue greens) in North Berwick, Scotland, is hosting the Genesis Scottish Open this week. This is the sixth consecutive year this course has hosted this event, and this is the third consecutive year the Genesis Scottish Open has been jointly sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and DP World TOUR, meaning this field of 156 golfers will be evenly split, with 75 players from each tour competing. Rory McIlroy is the defending champion of this tournament, winning last season at -15, which put him one stroke ahead of Robert MacIntyre. After the first two rounds this week, there will be a normal top-65 tournament and ties will be broken.

Established in 2008, the Renaissance Club is a unique links golf course with narrow fairways, thick rough, huge greens, 83 bunkers and zero water hazards. Despite the thick rough that surrounds the fairways of this golf course, elite drivers have an advantage at the Renaissance Club. McIlroy led his field in the SG OTT last season and four of the five winners at this venue finished the event in the top 20 in driving distance. Now, that doesn’t mean we should only line up bombers this week, but when juggling between two golfers, it’s a smart decision to side with the longer player.

In addition to the usual emphasis on iron play, at the Renaissance Club we also need to focus on golfers who are skilled short game players. Missing and rolling off the complex putting surfaces of this venue is inevitable, especially when the wind picks up. Three of the five players who have won the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club have finished the tournament in the top 15 in SG ARG.

Finally, the Renaissance Club is a rare par 70 that hosts 10 par 4s, five par 3s and three par 5s. On this course, being efficient on the par 4s is most important, and since five of the 10 par 4s here are between 400 and 450 yards long, it is a smart strategy to look for players who are strong on this length of par 4.

Below, I’ve highlighted four of my favorite DraftKings deals for the Genesis Scottish Open, all priced under $7,500.

Adam Scott ($7,300) – Don’t be fooled by Scott missing the cut at last year’s Genesis Scottish Open, as the Australian is one of the best players around. Scott missed the cut by just one stroke in his debut at the Renaissance Club last year and is in the midst of a strong season in which he made 12 of 14 cuts and finished in the top 25 six times. In addition, albeit at venues other than the Renaissance Club, Scott has had success at the Scottish Open throughout his career, reaching the top 25 five times in nine starts. The 43-year-old knows how to handle the fickle conditions of competition in Scotland, and his pay for this week is $400 less than his last start, although his final round of that appearance was a 64 at the Travelers Championship, which was Scott’s lowest finish of the season.

Thomas Detry ($7,200) – Detry has made it to the weekend in all five Genesis Scottish Opens held at the Renaissance Club, including a second place in 2021 and a T10 in 2022. The Belgian pro has a strong 25.4 He averaged on the racecourse and returns to the Renaissance Club in convincing form, with a five-way cut steak. During that time, Detry has impressed at two different major championships, with a T4 at the PGA Championship in May and then a T14 at the US Open last month. The 31-year-old, who is ranked sixth in the SGP this season, is a wizard with his flat club – since the start of the season, Detry has risen a remarkable 44 places in the World Golf Rankings. The veteran is an elite combination of strong course history and current form that needs to be attacked at this low salary.

Tom Hoge ($7,100) – Hoge finished tied for 19th at the Renaissance Club last season and needs to be included on the roster at this low price. The veteran has developed into one of the best iron players in the world and ranks second on the PGA TOUR in SG: Approach this season, with only Scottie Scheffler better. Not surprisingly, Hoge’s elite ball striking has brought the 36-year-old plenty of success. In 20 starts this season, Hoge has made 17 cuts and posted 10 top-25 finishes, including a tied for 3rd at the Travelers Championship in his last start. At this finish at TPC River Highlands, the veteran led the strong field in SG: Approach and finished second in birdies. With that form, Hoge has a shot at the top 10 this weekend.

Erik Van Rooyen (7,000 USD) – Van Rooyen finished T6 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, his 13th.th has made the cut and has finished in the top 25 eight times in 17 starts this season. The South African is in the top 15 at both the SGP and SG OTT when we compare the last 50 rounds of this field and he has shone at the Renaissance Club in the past. Van Rooyen has made 3 of 4 cuts at this venue, including a T14 in 2019 and a T6 in 2020. The 34-year-old has much higher potential than his low salary would suggest and is a great bargain this week.
