Shaboozey celebrates #1 with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” on the Hot 100

Shaboozey’s first Billboard Hot 100 hit was “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, which topped the chart on July 13, 2024.

Upon seeing the news, the 29-year-old musician celebrated on X (formerly known as Twitter). “WE DID IT GUYS,” he wrote alongside a tweet about the new chart success, before adding: “WE ARE #1 I LOVE YOU ALL. HAVE A HAPPY BAR SONG DAY. DRINK ME A DOUBLE DRINK OF WHISKEY!”

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” – an interpolation of J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy” – also tops the Hot Country Songs chart for the fourth time. No song by a black or certifiably biracial man has topped both charts before. He is the second black artist overall to do so – after Beyoncé with “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

Shaboozey was featured at Bey’s Cowboy Carter album earlier this year on “SPAGHETTII” and “SWEET HONEY BUCKIIN’”. He told Billboard in May: “What I liked about the Beyoncé album is that the inspiration and influence she had is probably the same as mine. We study the same things.”

He added of the inspiration behind “A Bar Song”: “I’ve been wanting to flip a song from the 2000s for a while. I just said, ‘Everyone at the bar is getting tipsy,’ and then we were like, ‘Oh, shit!’ The producer picked up the guitar and started playing the chords and then we started writing, just having fun and being creative.”
