One of Biden’s most famous supporters writes his political obituary

Stephen King has seen enough.

The prolific author called on Joe Biden to drop out of the race against Donald Trump, whom he often criticizes on social media.

“Joe Biden has been a good president, but it’s time for him – for the sake of the America he so obviously loves – to announce that he will not run for re-election,” King posted on X.

Fear is high, with senior Democratic lawmakers joining calls for Biden to step down despite his opposition. At the same time, some of the president’s most loyal supporters are stepping up their fight for Biden’s presidency, insisting there is no one better placed to beat Trump in what many consider to be one of the most important elections of their lives.

On Monday morning, Biden called into MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and stressed that “average Democrats” wanted him to stay in the race and said he was frustrated by calls from party officials for him to step down.

“These are big names, but I don’t care what those big names think,” Biden said.

He challenged his critics, saying that if they are serious, they should “announce their candidacy for president, challenge me at the convention” or get behind him and fight Trump. Biden later took part in a conference call with members of his national finance committee while first lady Jill Biden campaigned for her husband on a three-state tour that focused on engaging with veterans and military families.

According to a poll by the New York Times and Siena College, Democratic voters are divided on whether Biden should remain the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee or whether there should be another Democratic candidate.
