Veteran point guard Chris Paul officially signed with the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

Social media users are criticizing the San Antonio Spurs’ graphic design team this week after the team posted a welcoming image for Chris Paul to the team that some would politely describe as “hastily put together.”

Veteran point guard Paul officially signed a one-year, $11 million deal with the Silver and Black on Sunday, just days after it was first announced that the 12-time All-Star intended to do so.

To celebrate, the Spurs released a post on social media platform X welcoming Paul to the Alamo City. “Officially a Spur,” the message read. “Welcome to the 210, Chris Paul!”

A picture of Paul accompanied the greeting, still wearing his Golden State Warriors jersey. The partially blurred words “Welcome to San Antonio” spread out in the background.

Fans were quick to mock the design, with some even tweeting that they could have made a better one themselves.

“This is what happens when you ask someone to work during their paid vacation,” commented X-user @WorldWideWob in reference to the July 4th holiday weekend.

“Even Adobe Express has better templates than this,” added X-user @Swopes.

“Dear God, this is the worst graphic I have ever seen from a professional sports franchise on social media,” user @NvictusManeo chimed in.

Other people captioned the Spurs tweet with the popular “Graphic design is my passion” meme.

Whatever critics think of the welcome graphic, Paul comes at a time when the team – one of the youngest in the league on average – is looking for experienced leadership.

Although Paul averaged just nine points, seven assists and four rebounds with the Warriors last year, the 39-year-old is expected to provide guidance to the team and mentor guard Stephon Castle, the fourth pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
