Sierra Club endorses Norby Belz for Fort Lauderdale Commission

One of the country’s leading environmental organizations supports small businesses Norby Belz as he seeks the seat in the 1st district on the Fort Lauderdale City Commission.

“The Sierra Club is proud to support Norby Belz,” said Sierra Club member Andy Deeringwho lives in Fort Lauderdale. “We believe Norby’s leadership will be critical in addressing the current and future challenges facing Fort Lauderdale. His commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable development and working with stakeholders is exactly what our city needs.”

Norby tries remove incumbent Commissioner John Herbst in the competition. In a prepared statement, he thanked the Sierra Club for supporting his efforts.

“I am honored to receive the Sierra Club’s endorsement,” Belz said. “It is inspiring to have the trust of our community’s most dedicated advocates who are committed to protecting our homeland for generations to come. I am committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our community.”

Herbst faces a challenge from Belz after winning the District 1 seat by 17 points in 2022. He previously worked as an auditor for the city for 16 years before get fired by the Commission after examination by the Chief of Police Larry Scirotto work habits. He then ran for and won a seat to join them on the podium.

It is Belz’s first attempt at political office. He is the founder and CEO of Seva Learninga business and career coaching company in Fort Lauderdale. He also previously worked at his alma mater, the University of Kansas Medical Center.

The contest between Belz and Herbst will take place on November 5, the same day as this year’s parliamentary elections.

District 1 encompasses the northernmost part of Fort Lauderdale, with portions bordering the city’s western edge and other beaches along the Atlantic Ocean.
