“Uzumaki” – Adult Swim announces voice cast for Junji Ito adaptation

The English voice cast for Adult Swim upcoming adaptation of Junji Ito’s Horror Manga “Uzumaki” – Translation was announced at the Anime Expo over the weekend. The animated series, created in collaboration with Production IG USA, is currently in production.

The Japanese and English voice actors for the series include:

  • Kirie Goshima – Uki Satake / Abby Trott
  • Shuichi Saito – Shin-ichiro Miki / Robbie Daymond
  • Azami Kurotani – Mariya Ise / Cristina Vee
  • Kirie’s father – Toshio Furukawa / Doug Stone
  • Shuichi’s father – Takashi Matsuyama / Aaron LaPlante
  • Shuichi’s mother – Mika Doi / Mona Marshall
  • Katayama – Katsutoshi Matsuzaki / Max Mittleman

The original manga series, written and illustrated by Ito, tells the story of the citizens of Kurōzu-cho, a fictional town plagued by a supernatural curse involving spirals.

“Let’s leave this town together,” pleads Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school student born and raised in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, smoke rising from the crematorium, and the residents turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in swirls, a tongue twists, and bodies twist unnaturally. To escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee Kuouzu-cho, but can she escape this turmoil?

The manga “Uzumaki” consists of three volumes, which were first published in 1998. In 2000, the manga was adapted into a live-action film. Most recently, Ito’s work was adapted into an anime in the Netflix anthology “Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre”.
